My name is Sydni and I’m glad you’re here. I am a semi-well adjusted women, who loves Jesus, movies and is rounding the last year of her 20s. I live in Phoenix, Arizona with the best homies and roommates a girl could bribe and always on the hunt for chocolate and a deep conversation. Not to mention, I have a very tall twin brother and parents that deserve to be on the cover of Ebony magazine. It’s nice to meet you!
As an “almost” 30 something year old woman, I am discovering what it looks like to live life as a whole and complete person. In this society, we’re taught the lifelong goal is to become a whole human being. Every day, we’re supposed to analyze all our broken or missing parts and scour the Earth trying to find the perfect person, substance, or job to fill us up. Well, to quote Will Ferrell in one of my favorite movies, The Other Guys, “I call BS on that!”
In Will’s case, he and his police partner, Mark Wahlberg, had almost gotten blown up. In his mind, he was feeling the consequences of a case he never wanted in the first place. Of course, most of us wont spend our career fighting off criminals and explosions, but life can sometimes feel that way. It can feel as if we come into the world with mental, emotional, and physical injuries from events that happened long before us. It feel like we’re operating out of an empty cup. Well, what if I told you, we were already full? What if, instead of looking for our “other halves” or trying to find our purpose out in the world, we chose to believe everything is already on the inside of us?
I believe we are all born as whole individuals. We are one of one and guess what: One is whole number. This means when God created us, he provided everything we would ever need. The goal is not to search for missing pieces, but to work out of the belief we are lacking nothing. Then, we use our days to perfect the pieces that need mending. We live in a broken world and our mind, bodies and souls are subjected to that brokenness. However, it’s not who we are. For years, I lived my life with wounds of worthiness thinking I wasn’t smart enough, pretty enough, ambitious enough… pick your poison. Now, moving into my third decade of life, I’m determined to build from a whole place instead of a broken place.
Psalm 139 says “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” This blog is all about developing the elements of God’s creation: mind, body, spirit, passion and purpose to live our lives as whole individuals today! Of course, everything is better with a friend, so I pray you come on the journey with me and we will learn to live whole together. In the words of former Youtuber, GloZell, “Peace and blessings!”
